So
here we are flying into Bell Lap (only one lap to go now!)
with the three of
them hot in pursuit of getting past me to the
front! As we all were going
full tilt out of Turn #4 I was driving
my bike as fast as I could, like a woman
possessed! Clara
had enough speed (from drafting behind me) that she won
the
heat with Victoria managing to reach the finish line just a wee
bit before
I did. Finishing in 3rd spot meant that I had taken 7th place.

Saturday night was the Standing 500Metre and
usually riders are sent off one at a time. Now everyone was
paired off, again to speed up the schedule a bit more. I was
in the third heat with a total of 12 riders. Into the starting
gate my bike went, the usual 50second countdown on the clock was
started once both riders' bikes were set, onto my Beast (my bike)
and into my straps I went. I had one of the best starts ever
getting out of the gate and hammered the living daylights out of
the Beast
until I was up to speed with my gear and then settled into a smooth
hammering state. On the very last lap (there were only 2 laps
for the 500Metres) I managed to hit the last blue sponge that sits
on the track so that the rider doesn't take an even shorter line
-- drat! Once I crossed the Pursuit line (where we start for
the 500M) I immediately looked for my time on the big scoreboard
and saw
35.323sec. (50.958kmph), so for the moment I was actually in 2nd
place! There
were 4 more riders to go off but I did savour this finishing time. (It
is one of the best start of a new season Standing 500Metre that
I've done!) Three riders would be just a bit faster than I
so I would slowly get bumped down to finish off in 5th place. This
was a great position to finish off the World Cup in. |
